Spellings week by week

Beneath are the spelling rules that you will be learning in school.

These are organised on a week by week basis.

The spelling lists are uploaded beneath (for the relevant term), so even if you are off when they are handed out in school, you can access them from home!

Where relevant, the PowerPoint that has been used in class, to support learning, has also been uploaded.

Remember that each Friday your teacher will share the spelling rule for the forthcoming week.

Over the weekend, you will need to find spellings that fit the rule.

On a Monday, in class, the words found will be shared.

Over the following two days, you will investigate and practise your spellings further in class.

On a Thursday you will be tested on your spellings (either by a test or a written dictation).

Once you have found your spellings, you will need to practise them daily at home. You will need to complete your 'look, cover, write, check' grid each day. However, it is also recommended that you practise your spellings using the online games and other activities that we use in school (e.g. mnemonics, Shannon's game, etc).

It is ESSENTIAL that you understand the meaning of your spelling words and that you are able to use them in context - perhaps practise writing them into sentences.

It is important that you have your orange homework book in school every day. You will need it to stick your spellings in and the weekly homework slip on a Friday. You will need it on a Monday when we share the spellings found. In addition, you may need it for some of the spelling lessons in class.
